What is need, on average, to be admitted to the University of Oxford? Do they look at GPA and ECs?

I suggest you contact Oxford DIRECTLY. That is much, much easier in this day of the Internet. And you will get much more reliable information than you will get from a random stranger on the Internet.

But this random stranger will tell you that British colleges & unis are NOT interested at all in your EC’s and your GPA.

You didn’t tell us what country you are from, but from your use of terms like “GPA” and “EC” I am going to write the rest of this from the assumption that you are American. British students when they apply to colleges and unis take a set of difficult exams called “A levels”. They also are interviewed by the places they are interested in, and often the uni will have its own entrance exam that it gives in addition to A levels. So for a foreign student, you will need both the interview and the entrance exam, and then whatever your country’s nearest equivalent is to “A levels”. For the USA, that would be “AP tests”. For Oxford or Cambridge, you will need very good scores on AP tests, such as at least three scores at “5”.

KEVP

They’ll look at SAT scores, APs and GPA only if it’s noteworthy. Mostly they will rely on their tests (HAT, MLAT, PAT, etc.). It’s great to have APs, but you can also be admitted without them. You can find their requirements on their website at [Homepage - University of Oxford](http://www.ox.ac.uk). It partly depends on the course, so be sure to find the requirements of the course you’re interested in.

On Average…
Top Grades, A stand out personal statement, Proficient interview technique and a bit of luck.

Did you even bother to read the prospectus? Have you done any research? British universities will look at your AP exams in certain specified subjects. You cannot decide what to offer. GPAs are of marginal importance. ECs are of no importance.

So is anyone else getting extremely aggressive private messages from Rumson, as well as the insulting messages such as the above posted for some reason in almost every thread about Oxford?

I haven’t gotten any private messages from rumson.

I see why you would consider the above message from rumson slightly “aggressive”, but he is basically saying the same thing that I said in my earlier message.

We have been recently getting a lot of very naive questions about Oxford and Cambridge, from people who don’t seem to have even downloaded a prospectus over the internet (and if people are posting questions here on cc, then we know they DO have access to the internet). Rumson has lost patience with these people. There was one other guy, not the OP here, who would not listen to us and a number of us lost patience with them.

Some of these questions are very naive, and frankly stupid, and would be resolved by just one visit to the university’s website. It can be difficult to stay patient with these people.

KEVP

Agreed, people need to learn how to use the search function, and also remember than CC isn’t an alternative to google, but should be used for more specific, personal or hard to find questions only.

No I mean private messages like the one rumson just sent me.

Aggressive much?

Just a bit, and also a little wierd. And I’m pretty sure you can’t file a complaint to UCAS about stuff said in an online forum :)

Just ignore cr*p like this, cupcake.

I don’t remember you doing anything that would qualify as “advertising unlawful activities”. My experience is that folks who announce “I am filing a formal complaint with the appropriate authorities” generally don’t do any such thing. Unless they are the sort of crazy people that are always filing frivolous complaints that nobody takes seriously.

Lets say our threads actually are sent to all the member schools of UCAS, so what? And surely since this is a public forum, all these member schools can just come here and see what we have written anyways.

TheRealKEVP, your post is not as aggressive as rumson. That is before I read the quote on post #9. To rumson, so people ask dumb questions, you don’t like it, you don’t have to answer. I might report you to CC moderator.
