Admission to US university/college

Hi I am a Singaporean citizen with an American passport. I am planning to go to America to study in 2015(after my national service) I am planning to take my SATs and GEDs and I am wondering if It(the exams) is enough to get accepted to any schools. ( not talking about my scores but whether they take international students with SATs and GEDs only ) do I have to take any other exams? And do colleges/university wait for me to serve ns? URGENT PLEASE AND THANK YOU

Yes they wait for you to serve NS, you just have to state. But be sure to submit ur SATs as early as possible!

Did you take any other national exams? A levels in Singapore? If you’ve studied high school in US prior to NS, there should be some form of GPA right? I guess SAT is sufficient, maybe you can take both SAT I and SAT II (subjects relevant to what you intend to major).
If you score between 1800-2100: Try University of Washington (Seattle), they seem more than willing to accept international students because of the Out-of-State school fees. This is quite a good school. Other (less ranked, but still reputable enough) schools that you can consider is University of Pittsburgh and any school of that standard. Many state universities have lower expectations too.
However, if your SAT is above 2200, you should consider applying to Ivy League schools. Depending on how good your portfolio is (CCA/leadership achievements, Community/service contributions, Renowned Clubs/Societies), you have a good chance of getting it.

PS. I’ve just finished NS in March this year. Received college offers from several US unis (submitted both my SAT score and Alevel results), accepted University of Washington (Seattle) for this coming Autumn Quarter.

I’m Singaporean, doing IB (:

Just read your other posts to know that you are considering community colleges. If that’s the case, then you have little problem with your application by only submitting SAT and whatever you have. After CC, you can transfer easily to any other universities/colleges of your interest with a good GPA. I’m not sure whether you can apply at such an early stage, i applied for my colleges just the year before my entrance. But you should find out more, if you can apply earlier, you should do so to improve your chances. Even after getting accepted the first try, you should keep applying for a better school until the year you ORD.
*ONE KEY TIP i have for you is to go for a US university/college fair held in Singapore annually. Many US community colleges and reputable state universities have booths/counters that can help you with admissions ON THE SPOT. So you’ll know your chances then and there. I think 2013’s fair is over, you’ll have to wait for 2014’s.
