Is it possible to be admitted without a sports team during high school? I have done sports yet I was unable to join the school team.

Do you mean possible to be admitted into college in general?

Absolutely.

Colleges play varying levels of importance on sports participation. The military academies like West Point view them as very important, and ~70% of successful applicants played varsity sports. Other colleges - even the top schools - place far less importance on sports than involvement.

As long as you have spent your time in ways that generate growth for yourself and your community, you should be golden. Sports are never a requirement.

how about ivy leagues or top colleges? I have this feeling that not having a sports team will haunt me. I was unable to get on my swimming team due to the competition. I have swam for a long time outside of school and I do have other ECs

Plenty of people in Harvard don’t play sports. My cousin was admitted last year and has no athletic prowess whatsoever.

The top universities want to see that you spend your time productively and that you’ll be able to take advantage of the opportunities they offer. You do not necessarily have to be well rounded in activities. In fact, it’s often better to show extraordinary involvement in one or two things than to show average involvement in an extraordinary number of activities.
