admission

I'm an American high school student applying to McGill and would appreciate any opinions on my chances at McGill. I'm applying to the faculty of arts, and its requirements are listed as having "strong grades in all Grade 10, 11 and 12 English courses." My grades are respectively C+, B (AP), and B+. ACT is listed as : Composite Score: 26-29, English, Reading, Math, and Science 24-25. My scores are 24 science, 25 math, 30 reading, 31 english. I realize that my math and science barely meet the minimum, but will my above average english and reading schools make up for sophomore english? My application will be accompanied with a letter explaining extenuating circumstances. I love mcgill and if you can offer any advice on what I can do to improve my chances as a senior, please let me know.

Well, you’re not a shoo-in. Strive for an A in English this year to continue that upward trend, and you’ll definitely increase your chances. Can you retake the ACT? If not then it’s really just going to come down to what the competition is like this year - if a bunch of Ivy league-esque kids apply to McGill, then I’m sorry to say you probably won’t be admitted.

tough chance, but do write the letter explaining the extenuating circumstances.
