Hey everyone! So I'm kind of in a bad situation. I'm stuck between going to Fordham Univeristy or going to either SUNY Albany or SUNY Buffalo. I've been accepted to Fordham through HEOP as a commuter, which is not so bad because I live less than an hour away by public transportation. My problem is that I want to have the whole college experience of forming and meeting new people and getting out of the city to see how other areas are like, but Fordham is a great school and I know a degree from Fordham is better than a degree from Albany or Buffalo. Another thing is, I really don't want to stay at my house while in college and I wouldn't be able to dorm until sophomore year. I feel like I will get a better education at Fordham, but I would not enjoy my college experience and be independent and on my own in a college dorm, which I really want to do. By the way, I'm an accounting major. Any advice? Please and thank you!

I really like all three schools. If you get through an accounting program and become a CPA, I don’t think it’s going to much matter whether your degree is fro Fordham or a SUNY. I know many kids who go to top rates schools, and then go back to school at a CUNY or SUNY to get the extra credits and CPA certification. In fact, I believe the NY state schools, Buffalo , I know for sure, have internationaly certified accounting programs, and I don’t think Fordham does. Not a huge deal, but something to consider.

My one son had a similar choice to yours and went off to college. When he comes home, he now sees the grass on the other side of the fence and it’s pretty green at times. When he was deciding on colleges, he felt exactly like you. But a lot of his friends did stay local an are doing well and have an active social life commuting. He’s a bit lonely and it’a whole other life where he is. Has its benefits too. So no matter what you choose, there are the benefits.

Can’t make the decision for you. You have a great set of choices, an enviable problem, and it s win, win, however you pick. Congratulations!

Most of my friends are staying in NYC for college, but I have a friend to dorm with me at either school. I’ve heard the campus is boring at Fordham if your a commuter and that all you do is go to class and then go home. Also, dorming somewhere in the city which is close to me would be kind of pointless. Either way I think I am going to try to transfer to binghamton. My grades weren’t high enough, but I went to visit and fell in love with everything about the school. It also has a top notch management school not to mention family that lives 10 minutes away from campus. Thank you for all of your help. All of these college decisions are so stressful not to mention taking 4 college classes along with my high school classes.

Hi William, just wondering when did you hear from Fordham? Did you have to get interviewed for their HEOP program?
