so california's probably getting it.. wednesdayish?

I hope so. I live in California and applied to Smith. I wish all of you the best of luck!

Man... these next few days are going to nuts. I'm nervous but at the same time, I can't wait to rip open the envelope.

Fwiw, I can't swear to it but TheMom and I have the same memory, the acceptance came in a thinnish #10 envelope. No big package. So don't anyone keel over if you get a thin one until you're read the inside.

In another posting on a different thread they say that smith will post on line, can anyone verify this? I would have thought they would have told us to check our admission status if that was true.

Last year I received an email on Thursday that I could check my admissions status online at a certain time on Friday. I imagine that it might be done similarly this year.

I can tell you that early decision was not posted online on bannerweb. Also, while a small envelope may very well contain an acceptance letter, I received a big envelope when I was accepted.

Thanks and may I wish everyone here the best of luck. TheDad, it was a pleasure chatting with you, you are a great resource to this site and Smith College, I wish your daughter the best.

hey i called smith today and they said decisions go into the mail on friday!

Huh. If Friday, the president was wrong. Hmm. I guess it can happen with colleges too.

Whereas the niece of a friend got notified to day that she had received Mary Maples Dunn scholarship, which I've never heard of but it's about $3,000; the same letter said she was admitted.

I got a letter today telling me I'm a STRIDE scholar. Cool.

Congratulations, lindseylujh. We have some friends waiting to hear out here in the west. The Stride program is wonderful and as my daughter says the Stride coordinator holds Stride teas where he serves his homemade scones. She reports they are excellent.

congrats guys on ur CA$h....always good to have

I got a letter today too about being a STRIDE scholar -- it said that formal admissions letters would be mailed on the 25th..they were probably just being safe in the letter, but I thought I'd better add that in.

Congratulations, Lindsey and Mn05. The STRIDE is a pretty nice perk.

Are you going to Open Campus? Do you think you may go to Smith?

Congrats, Lindseylujh. Great days are ahead for you.

TheDad: Thanks. My dad (bandit_TX) and I will be in New England in early April and will visit if Smith is still a major contender once all of my decisions are in. We visited a year ago and loved it. I have several other acceptances at this point (you can check my PR Stats profile), but I do love Smith and don't have a clear view of where I'll spend the next four years yet.

Zuma: So nice to see you again :) Better days are here - check out my PR Stats profile to see my other offers at this point.

Lindsey, I did and you're looking good all around. Still can't figure out that Y situation mid-December. It's truly baffling. All said, you'll be at a great place this fall. Great going.

My daughter also received a pre acceptance letter today with the following message.

"I have exciting news for you! While Smith College does not extend official offers of admission until the end of March, we have chosen you and a small number of other applicants for a very special honor."

It goes on to say, "..and we want you to attend Smith as a Mary Maples Dunn Scholar."

There is Smith website information on this merit award but it is not listed on the page about financial aid and scholarships. Mary Maples Dunn was president of Smith for ten years from 1985-1995.

This was a delightful surprise. I thought my daughter had a good chance with Smith, but this was more than we had expected. She was already notified of acceptance, with partial scholarships, to two safety schools, UVM & Clark.

TheDad, when costs go up, what happens to financial aid?

Financial aid awards are evaluated each year, based on family financial info, (I am filling our's out as I speak) (actually, I am avoiding it at the moment). As I understand it, what your are offered is based on what the financial aid office thinks you can pay, so the increase in fees should mean an increase in financial aid, all other things being equal. In some cases, merit aid like the Zollman scholarship, are based on tuition so that will go up with the increase in tuition.
