Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

Hello! I applied 10/31, but it showed that my transcript was missing until 11/07, even though other schools received my transcript with the rest of my application 11/01. Anyone else have this happen? Does it affect my EA status? Also, I applied to Engineering and Honors, but am planning on switching to Neuroscience. Should I email admissions right now to request a change of major, or should I wait for my admittance results?

My Son applied 11/1, his transcripts didn’t show until 11/16 even thought the school sent them on Oct 22nd. He reached out to admissions and they said he is still considered EA.

I’m a high school counselor and also a senior parent this year! A few facts that may relieve some stress (or not!)…
-OSU uses weighted GPAs/highest GPA provided.
-This is the first year OSU has required engineering majors to apply by Nov.1. This may be why the number of accepted students seem to be engineering heavy–they all had to apply EA.
-OSU states they are major blind in the admissions process. Whether this is actually true or not, who knows, but that is what they state on their website.
-If you’re high school counselor is sending your transcript electronically, it arrives at the college immediately. It will take a college anywhere from one day to eight weeks to process the materials and log it in so that you can see it in the student portal. It varies from college to college. This in no way affects due dates since the items were there on time, no matter the date listed on the student portal.
Good luck everyone! My son has his fingers crossed for OSU too!

@osubucks93 Thank you so much for your insight!

From the lack of people saying anything I’m assuming there really is no released statuses. Bummer. Hang in there guys.

I got accepted into the honors program last night!

D received snail mail yesterday, Nov 30th, regarding acceptance. She’s quite excited. We’re in WA.

Acceptance to Fisher came in the mail today.

I got another envelope besides the initial big acceptance pamphlet saying that I was admitted to the pre-major to the college of engineering—is this anything significant? Isn’t that what my initial acceptance was anyways?

on the odd side, since 1pm today we cannot get to the Application Center, Statement of account, Payment (Student) and some other pages from the main BuckeyeLink page and keep getting the Oracle/Peoplesoft UserID & Password page which does not work.

Perhaps a glitch, perhaps something else…

@GmanCC does that mean they are possibly updating the portal for decisions???

I don’t know why the fact that their server was down would indicate anything. My son was accepted and we have the same thing. I wouldn’t read into it.

Ahh okay. Darn. ):

^^^ ty for sharing, myst be a systemwide server problen/ Oh well, back to biting fingernails !

Daughter received her snail mail acceptance today. We are in New York. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted and I hope those still waiting hear soon!

@GmanCC Son received same letter from College of Engineering. I think just to confirm that all engineering freshman are pre-engineering…Funny thing is he still did not receive large acceptance envelope yet, although admitted on 11/16.

does anyone know how soon Merit Scholarships come out after acceptance?

From what I’ve heard (from two friends who actually work in OSU admissions), they unweight all GPAs to a 4.0 scale since all high schools weight differently. For instance, my daughter’s HS gave .025 for AP classes, while some do a full 1.0.

I’ve never heard of a college (and we visited 8) that took weighted GPAs into the equation. As a matter of fact, they all specifically tell you that they DON’T when you visit.

@bucks724 this is partly true. Most schools do un-weight GPA but most also re-weight them adding extra for AP and Honors classes. Regardless, all of them take rigor into consideration.

Rigor is absolutely looked at. No denying that. But they place all grades, regardless of Honors, AP, IB, etc., into a 4.0 scale for admissions purposes. And that’s why class rank and GPA are looked at simultaneously.

“High school performance (class rank or GPA), including participation in accelerated programs like Honors, AP and IB; Ohio State does not have minimum requirements for class rank or GPA”
