They don’t all do that though. Many schools are very transparent and do add weight to honors and AP classes. And many schools do not rank. OSU doesn’t say anywhere that they aren’t re-weighting GPA as most schools do.
Common data set - page 6, item C11 - GPA out of a 4.0 scale: https://oaa.osu.edu/sites/default/files/uploads/irp/cds/columbus/CDS_2016-17_Survey_Columbus.pdf
This would seem to indicate that they are unweighting the GPAs submitted by the HS. C7 indicates that the RIGOR is important. But GPA is still out of a 4.0. But regardless. It is what it is. Best of luck to all applicants!
Schools that re-weight do not put weighted GPA on the CDS. For instance, Umass is very transparent in how they add.5 to honors classes and 1 point for AP. The CDS always has the unweighted GPA.
As far as class rigor, does anyone know how College Credit Plus (CCP) classes are viewed?
And then on class rank, how is the fact that all high schools are not equal accounted for? For instance a student may by top 15% in one school, but if they went to a school just one town over, they might be top 5%.
@curious105 that is exactly why so many schools have stopped ranking. Class rank is not apples to apples.
Did anyone else get a phone call from admissions? I got one last night but was at work so I didn’t answer, they left a message saying they’d call back later from the same number. Wondering/hoping this could maybe be about one of the merit scholarships?
Does anyone know a place where they have a graph of everyone’s ACT/SAT and GPA and whether or not they got admitted etc.? My school has one but it only shows up for kids going to my school, so it’s not super in depth.
They have one on naviance, which is a website my school uses for teacher recs and stuff, but someone put their gpa in as 4000 so it doesn’t really work. I think Niche might have a graph up? Prepscholar shows averages, but it doesn’t have a graph.
Same for my son… pre-engineering letter and one page letter saying he was accepted into Ohio State Columbus campus.
@Lonerstamp collegedata.com has something like that, but in chart form, not a graph. Looks like it’s self-reported by users of the site, so not an official source. There’s also some info in the Common Data Sets for each school.
Cappex has scattergrams but Naviance is the most accurate because it compares you to students at your own school which is how colleges compare you.
Hey! I am an international student and I am waiting for my admission decision. Applied and completed the application on 31st October. I hope that I receive a decision by mid-december or else it is going to be so stressful.
Anyone else who is expecting decisions on 15th?
@PinkPanther12315 There are a bunch of us here that are hoping to hear in the next round of decisions. The month long wait seems to take forever between decision releases. Two years ago when my older son applied, they released decisions every other week, that was better I think. But then he also heard back in the first round. The waiting to hear for my second son is killing me. Oh well, nothing to do but wait. Good luck to you.
@Mombean We are in a similar situation. S17 was accepted in the first round two years ago. His stats are a bit higher than S19, but I’m not sure if that means anything. S17 applied for engineering, S19 is applying for Atmospheric Sciences. I agree, the waiting is brutal. Good luck!
My daughter says her best friend got an acceptance email Saturday the 1-Dec for engineering which, if true, leads me to believe they arent doing the monthly releases? I can concur from two years ago when my son got accepted they seemed to be doing the weekly releases. I didnt see anyone on here that got accepted over the last week so am skeptical but agree with everyone else on the waiting. Brutal for the kids.
I am in the exact same boat. My son went engineering in 17 and got his letter in the first round. My daughter this year is Biology with higher ACT (31) but lower GPA (3.2) and is still waiting.
@Ntpro1313 are sure she received an email? Acceptances to the colleges at OSU come via the USPS not email.
@collegemom9 My daughter received acceptance by email, letter by snail mail and notification on the portal…they covered all bases.
@1happypappy Yes I know as did my son. I was referring to the specific situation above about the engineering school acceptance.
Don’t they typically do the waves on fridays? So are we expecting the 14th, Friday, or the 15th, a Saturday?
