admissions essay importance

How important is the essay for admission to UF? Do they look at grammatical errors, content, what is most important for the essay?

UF as is the case with most public universities, doesn't pay that much attention to essays, but mainly admits students based on their stats and state of residence, with in-state being preferred.

To find out how much importance colleges place on various factors, it's worth it to pay $15 to completely access the US News college on-line site, which the payment would allow you to access until mid Aug. '09.

Beyond what NSM recommends, may I ask why you're worried about grammatical errors? Surely you aren't planning on submitting a college essay w/o proofing it or allowing a trusted person to do so?

If you were in the UF admissions office and an essay came in with several errors, how would this affect your judgment (if the case was a possible in/possible out)?

Just assume everything you submit from here on out (college apps, scholarship apps, job apps, internship apps, writing a note to your kid's 1st grade teacher) is more than the equivalent of your handshake. Firm and confident or a wet fish? What'll it be?

Good luck to you with UF!

OP

if your not smart enough to make sure your essay is up to to snuff grammatically then i dont think UF is the place for you..

OP: The most important thing would probably be grammer. An essay is expected to be grammer-free and any errors could be detrimental to the flow and content of you essay, which comes next in importance. All essays are different in content, but the common thing is that they should be error-free, and if that is not shown in the essay, it is automatically not up to par with the rest of the essays.

haha, no wonder you dont have to get perfect to score in the 99th percentile on the writing section of the SATs.....

I am not saying my essay would have grammar mistakes, I was just curious about what was really important to admissions and if there were a few things that sound awkward in the essay, if it would completely ruin my chances. But thanks for the input.
