I am beginning to get my application together and will be applying for fall 2010. Anyone on here doing the same?

Also, has anyone on here been admitted and if so, could you share some info as to what you think assisted you in getting in?

I am concerned because although I definitely have a non-traditional background, my grades at my community college aren't straight A's (I've had a lot of work conflicts). I am hoping that my professional background will compensate for my relatively low GPA.

Finally, for anyone who was a community college student in California, do you know if GS reviews only your UC GPA and classes, or your cumulative (including on-transferrable courses) GPA?

I’m not sure I understand what you mean about a cumulative GPA. Are you saying that you attended other undergraduate institutions beyond, or before, your UC matriculation? If so, regardless of whether or not that coursework will transfer, you can expect that it’ll be considered during the admissions process.

Community colleges offer courses that are considered non-transferrable. Essentially, these courses do not show up on your transcript when applying to UC schools (ucla, berkley, etc) but will show up on PAPER when you apply to private schools. Thus, on the GPA section of your transcript you have a cumulative GPA, and a UC GPA (UC gpa being classed considered transferrable at UC schools). For UC schools, your UC gpa is ALL that matters, not cumulative. I’m hoping the same goes from GS because my UC GPA is higher than my cumulative.

I just completed my application for early decision for th Fall of 2010 at GS. I had the opportunity to speak with the Director of Admissions at GS when he showed up at a “transfer fair” at the community college I attend. He said that while all classes may not be transferable (definitely not online courses), community college credit will equate in some form of credit at GS if your community college is worth anything.

I transferred from a CA Juco and my experience with the credits was really good. GS looks at both and doesn’t differentiate between UC credits, CSU credits or non transferable. They took them all except for additional PE courses I took beyond two credits and my Art History course which I got a C in that GS wouldn’t replace art hum with unless I successfully petitioned for it, which I did not do, but the class was the same exact thing. Other than that though some non UC and CSU transferable courses actually counted and filled some of my requirements, as well as some courses in my major counted towards that requirement. I think GS kind of knows which JUCOS in CA are really good. The one that I attended, is far superior to anything in the CSU system and feeds Berkley regularly.

With all that being said though, this school is private and by that nature they don’t operate on the same cookie cutter path as a state run system, and in this regard expect to make your case when you get here as an individual to another individual, not as a number to some state master planned matrix of rules that define what you can and can’t have.
