Hey! Wondering about something for interviews / admissions . . .
I am a high schooler in one of the smallest Ivy towns. There is only one high school and we have about 600 kids. You can probably guess where . . . The college does accept a lot of kids within the town. I’ve been wondering how to present myself as wanting to stay in that same college town. I’ve heard that a lot of colleges will ask you why you want to stay in the same town in which you grew up. I have a few ideas but wanted to hear your thoughts too!
This has nothing to do with wanting to stay in the same town. It has everything to do with being familiar enough with the college/university to know that it is a place where you want to srudy.
I think I’m familiar enough with the college since I’ve lived here basically all my life. I know that the interviewers do ask why people who apply within town would stay here. Thank you for your response. Feel free to keep responding!
I’m guessing here, but I think part of the point of the question is wondering why you don’t want to break away, explore new places, see a little more of the world, etc., since this is often one of the appealing aspects of going away to college. So, if you can do so honestly, you might want to talk about things like moving from your parents house to campus being it’s own kind of new experience, planning on studying abroad and thinking it would somewhat foolish to overlook a school you really like on its own merits just because it’s in your backyard.
@millie210 That’s such a good response! I’ve been asking a lot of my mentors and they’ve had similar answers
