Admissions Interview

What are the things you should know before going to an interview? What kind of questions are they likely to ask you? Any Interview tips?

You should know general facts about said school so you don't look like a complete ass if they ask you any school and/or professor related questions [though I never really was hit by the latter]. In between my six interviews I found the most common questions were:
Why are you interested in said major? [so if you list a major on your app be prepared to discuss it in the interview]
What made you interested in said school? [thus research will be really helpful]
What activity outside of school do you enjoy participating in most?
What do you do fun? [similar to prior question, I know]
What courses are you taking this year? [thus don't just answer but elaborate]
What books have you read this past year? [once again elaborate]
Then the "Do you have any questions for me?"
Which you better have some for best results. Personally I either discussed political activity [way of expressing you're politically active without describing what party you affiliate yourself with] or the general social life on campus, or more specifically the greek life [since that was of major concern to me] if I knew the school had one. [The whole greek life thing really hit well since I had a sorority queen and a top eating club member, so..] Oh and a personal note, I recommend never saying, "Well to be honest with you" because I feel this implies that you never tell the truth, but w/e. However, more important than anything else is be yourself, I really can't tell you what's more important then being genuine in an interview and then from there it should go well. So good luck with them, they were easily one of the more favorite parts of this whole application process so just have fun with them.

When you get the "do you have any questions for me" question, don't ask simple questions that you can find the answers for on the universities website. Ask about the kinds of things Tonyt88 talked about - greek life, political life etc - things that are hard to find out about unless you've been there or work there.

Wow tony, that was thorough. I didn't ask the question, but thanks nonetheless. All of this stuff below you can find the PR website. I think it's pretty informative.

Being Prepared for the Interview:
*think about why you are there
*don't ask questions answered in the brouchure
*don't bring up popular (mis)conceptions of the school
*don't ask "bizarre" questions, but make them creative and interesting
*have friends/parents/relatives ask you "thought provoking questions" to prepare

Don't Let the Easy Questions Throw You
*why do you want to go here?
*what first brought us to your attention?
*what do you want to major in?
*what do you want to do with your life?

Interviewing in Style
*look presentable for the interview
*don't worry about how long the interview takes (long is not always good)
*send a thank you note

What Not to Talk About
*standardized test scores
*other stats
*class rank

Other Interviewing Tips
*lose your parents
*be polite, respectful, friendly and clean
*save the best interviews for last

Alot of times interviews are with alumni who might not actually know that much about the current situation, like college life, at the school, but they will ask you questions
