Due to Harvard's decision to reinstate SCEA, I'm predicting Stanford will be deferring many applicants to the RD round. Anyone agree?

Makes sense.

Explain please?

Many applicants applied to Stanford REA in previous years even thought it wasn’t their first choice, Harvard was. Now that Harvard has brought their SCEA program back, many students will be applying to Harvard SCEA, because it’s their first choice. Generally, Harvard is harder to get into than Stanford, so applicants attempted “to game” the system. They realized if I can’t go to Harvard then Stanford is a good fall back option. But now Stanford will be deferring A LOT of REA applicants, because Stanford’s admissions counselors will want to compare their REA applicants to their RD applicants. That’s just my opinion.

Gotcha. So do you think they will accept less and defer more or accept the same and defer more?

In my opinion, accept less and defer more.

But only so many applicants can be deferred, so I don’t see the number soaring that high.

So you all believe that Stanford will pass over highly qualified, dynamic, distinguished applicants who really want to go to Stanford so that they can potentially pick up a few more rejects who would have rather gone to Harvard???

No, I think Stanford will defer more people REA so they can compare their REA applicants to their RD applicants. Because Stanford will have no idea how good the RD pool is.
