Hi I'm new here, my names Matt i'm from maryland.

My questions here is, if I completed my file(including DODmerb and the CFA) in August and recieved my nomination(presidential although, I am also applying for nominations from my representatives) in mid-september, how does the review process work for me, am I out of the LOA procces?

Thank you very much for your help!

A LOA is given to very promising candidates in hopes of getting them to commit to a Service Academy. Think of them as an Early Action admittance to a civilian college.

You must continue to pursue a nomination from another source, as only a limited number (I believe around 100) of appointments can be made based on presidential nominations.

The review process will work for you the same as any candidate. Your advantage is that your file will be reviewed several times as it has been submitted and completed early in the process. The Review Board meets once per week, on Thursday, reviewing the files and making the decisions.

Do not stress over an LOA. I know about many, many current mids who did not receive an LOA, and for that matter, were not selected to attend NASS, yet obviously made it through the process.

Best of luck.

thank you very much for your response!

How do you get presidental nomination?, I remember reading somewhere that your parent had to be like a Medal of Honor winner or something like that. Is there a limit to how many he can give out?

Unlimited number of Presidential nominations. Go to the USNA candidate catalog site and it will be explained. I believe all children of active and/or retired military are automatically awarded Presidential nominations.

"All children of active and/or retired military are automatically awarded Presidential nominations"?

Wow! That's hard to believe with all the hard work its takes the non-military kids.

To receive a Presidential Nomination you need to submit a request to the Dean of Admisssions. A sample letter is available online.

To be eligible for a Presidential Nomination, your parent(s) must be active duty, reserve, or retired military and meet one of the following:

□ Active duty officers: statement of service signed by personnel officer specifying all periods of active duty.
□ Active duty enlisted: statement of service prepared by personnel officer specifying all periods of active duty and listing dates of enlistment and dates of expiration of enlistment.
□ Reserves: proof of current service, including a copy of most current annual statement of reserve points (minimum points required 2880) and valid identification card, or notice of eligibility (NOE) for retirement.
□ Retired with pay: copy of DD Form 214 (Members Copy 4)
□ Deceased or 100% disabled: Veterans Administration official determination of 100% disability or service-connected death.

There are an unlimited numer of Presidential Nominations; however, only 100 candidates can receive an appointment in this category.

It is a benefit by having a military parent however it by no means makes it easy for me to get in. My father passed away my sophomore year and I have worked just as hard, and have never missed a day of school aside from the days I was at summer seminar. I am in all AP's ,top 10% class, and I am a Maryland State champion in lacrosse, it just so happens the presidential nomination is to my benefit. I however do not consider it as making it easier for me; I have done everything else a non-military child would have to do, including applying to senators and the vice president. The Naval Academy has always been my dream and until last spring I was unaware I could receive the presidential nomination thus everything I have done in my high school career is what I believe can make me competitive not my father’s military service(although I am extremely proud for everything he has done). Trust me it has been no cake walk, and as Great American said before me only 100 candidates can use this nomination so it still remains competitive. My only question now is do they send out letters of acceptance or waitlist/rejection on their own schedule or is their set dates?

Good Luck to All those applying!

you got to severna park?

Matt,
I am glad there are benefits to the families of those that serve. They are well deserved.

socal dreamers, I'm sorry if i sounded too defensive, I was just trying to make sure that it didnt seem as if i was handed a golden ticket, I still have to wait for that letter(which never seems to come haha) and I still have my interviews with my senators

Kwyjibo217, I go to Loch Raven High School we won the 2A/1A Championship against Parkside(who were defending champions , had not lost in 2 years and got an honorable mention to be nationally ranked in Inside Lacrosse). We don't get to play schools like Dulaney or Severna Park cause we have less people, to me its a really stupid system, we did however beat Towson if you are fimiliar with this part of maryland, who has been a powerhouse lacrosse team around this area and who often plays at the same level as Severna Park and Dulaney. It was our first ever state championship.

It is very early in the process for appointments.
On another note, have you contacted the lax coach at Navy? If you have not, I strongly suggest you do so ASAP.

Candidatemom

he actually contacted my coach, but at this point they are still engaged in phone tag so I have not gotten any specific information(mind you I am not a blue chip recruit), it would be amazing to play lacrosse at the naval academy but the most important thing to me right now is recieving an appointment
