Admissions stats

the stats came out today in the Bates student (college newspaper). 4648 applied 1318 accepted, so like 28.3% Also minority apps were wayyyy up like 35%, i’ll take any questions about bates and ur decision. Welcome class of 2011!

I'm coming ............ YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry Bateskid, I'd love to ask you a question: In case I didn't have a laptop , should I buy one, or Bates will give me?
Why wasn't I asked to do the" deposit" thingy?

No, Bates does not provide a laptop. Although this is speculation, perhaps the admissions office may have paid the deposit for you. If you are concerned, i would send them an email or call them about it. What other schools did you get into. Also, i see you are from Vietnam, i am not an international but one of my very good friends is from Vietnam and we have many Vietnamese on campus for a school our size. Private message me if you want to know more bout them.

bron, last year i was not asked to deposite, but the $300 deposit does come in the end, it is intergrated into your fall semester school fee if you chose to go to Bates.

Bates does not give students laptops, but there is a special laptop program for Bates students (i think Dell and Apple only). so my advice is, come here and buy one. you know, in our country (Vietnam), they tax heavy imported tax on computers...

Thanks, Bateskid and Immortelle, for the infos. I will surely enroll. See you guys this Fall :)

do you have any statistics on the waitlist?

i got waitlisted, and bates is my first choice by a mile.

i wrote a nice letter expressing my desire to attend bates, but i dont know if i have any chance of getting taken off.

gjetta - The waitlist is hard to quantify because the number of students who come off it every year changes with the matriculation rate. Writing a letter to admissions is a great step, and don't be afraid to call them and tell them your interest on the phone either. Bates places an emphasis on letting students off the waitlist that they know want to attend bates. I know a few students who came off the waitlist last year, so it's not impossible. If you're looking for hard data, check out the school's Common Data Set (CDS). The CDS will have statistics on transfers as well as regular applicants and you should be able to find it by searching the school's website. However, keep in mind that CDS data for transfers will vary from year to year, so unlike regular admissions data information from last year is not a good indicator for this year. Sorry for the roundabout answer but i hope this helps. get in touch with your admissions officer and i hope to see you next fall.
