Admissions weighting GPA and SAT at test optional schools

OK
with a "meh" GPA (B) and strong SATs for test optional schools (mid 50% bracket)

Would submitting those scores be a strong tipping point in favor of the student?

I think the strong scores can only help. There’s a small chance that your student might look like a bit of a slacker, but a lot of that will depend on why the GPA is in the B range. My younger son had things he wasn’t good at (Latin, Chem) and things he was very, very good at (History). Others have ADD and forget to hand in homework. Others go to magnet schools where getting a B, still means you are above average, just not in that population. And plenty are good solid B students who test well. Your student’s essays and recommendations will probably give the admissions committee some ideas about that.

^ yes the student is twice exceptional.
