Admissions

I submitted my application on October 30th, 2012. I also submitted any documents they needed. I check my application status online almost everyday and it says they still have not reached a decision on my candidacy. Does it usually take this long to find out if I've been accepted or not?

Ive heard of people getting a decision 4 months later…even 6 months… So 2 months and a half that youve been waiting is not that bad…it just depends…they work in weird ways… Lol cuz i have heard of other people getting a decision within a week or even hoursss after they submitted their application… Just gotta be patient unfortunately…it does suck. But keep checking everyday cuz you never know when a decision is made.

The wait time varies from how busy the admissions department to your stats. I had a fairly short wait time.

I applied in July of 2012 and got my acceptance on December 8th so don’t loose hope

Still waiting…about 4 months now! :/

I keep saying this, but are you sure they have everything? They never got my DD’s transcript even though it was sent electronically from the school. After they got it, she was accepted very quickly. A guy on this board, their electronic system said they had everything, but when he called, they said they needed a newer transcript with first semester grades.

Also, have you seen the grid? http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/pdf/counselor-grid.pdf</a> Scroll down to Fall, 2013. It tells you pretty much EXACTLY what gets you accepted there. My DD was in the mint green “accept with two academic success factors” section (3.5 USF GPA, 1350 SAT CR and M). She had 4 ASFs, so she got accepted. So they do go through carefully enough to notice your schedule (Her ASFs were taking an extra foreign language course beyond 2, AP courses, and extra science classes beyond the requirement, as well as her SAT writing score). But I don’t know if they really read the essay or ECs if you meet those requirements. Maybe they look if you don’t quite.

I’ve heard USF and UCF both accept a lot more people after UF acceptances go out and people reject them because they’re going to UF. My DD will go to UF if accepted (but I doubt she will be), which would open up a spot.

^Your daughter is well qualified for both USF and UF. What might work the most against her with UF is being from ‘top 3’ Fl high school where most seniors apply to UF. If she were from a small rural Fl high school she’d be a lock for admission to both USF and UF. If she wants to do pure agriculture major, go to UF with its Ag college. If she is doing environmental/science major either school would be super. If choosing between UF regular and USF Honors consider USF. UF regular she’ll be treated more as a number, USF Honors offers advantages. If she is considering graduate school, being in closer contact with professors at USF Honors can be important in getting needed good references for grad school applications from professors who know their students well. Good Luck!

Many Selfish high school students who applied to all the major schools in Florida are probably sitting on their USF acceptance letter and awaiting a response from UFL , FSU & other major schools. I can assure you that over 100’s of USF freshman spots will open up in the coming month when UFL & FSU announce.

Don’t give up!

It’s not selfish, it’s called keeping your options open.

I’m sitting on my UCF and USF acceptance for UF, but I’m leaning towards USF. USF has given me a lot more benefits than UF.

^^^
B.S.
You are being selfish and screwing over another deserving USF applicant just dying to get admitted. You weren’t accepted to FSU but you are holding out hope for UFL…
Be honest with yourself…
If you are really leaning towards USF, then make the deposit, sign up for housing, accept your scholarship money, buy yourself all the USF crap you can get your hands on and move on…
By the way… UFL doesn’t announce for a few more weeks…So obviously you have not been accepted to UFL yet, right???

I’m not being selfish and I never said I got my acceptance to UF nor have I ever said that I applied to FSU. Reread my post.

On another note, I’d like to distinguish something. Leaning does not mean decided. I don’t have to make my deposit now nor do I have to decline my acceptance. I have until May 1st to make my decision. Am I going to take that long? No, I’m not, but I have the right to. This is the place where I will be spending the next 3-4 years of my higher education, and if I’m not mistaken…aren’t you doing the same thing?

Here’s the link in case you forgot where you posted this:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-florida/1443876-getting-into-university-florida-out-state-2.html</a></p>

I must be the oddball–I have been accepted to my 2nd choice school (in another state), and I am waiting for my #1 USF to let me in! :)

I think we are all doing what we can to be sure our bases get covered…we are all under a bit of stress as we make one of the most important decisions of our lives! Best of luck to you all–may you all end up at exactly the RIGHT school for you!

@Niquii77 if you don’t mind me asking, what’re your stats?

I don’t mind at all, anything to help :)

I got a 1740 SAT, I retook it and received a higher score, but I didn’t send them the new one. My ACT is a 29. GPA is a 3.87/4.3. Rank is 2%. I took 5 APs last and am taking 3 currently.

Thank you. X) Using you as a reference point, I should have a less short time. I have the same ACT (but I didn’t send that) and a higher SAT (1990 which I did send) but a much lower gpa 3.2/3.6. Same amount of APs with 6 DE courses.

Hopefully I’ll hear back soon enough. X)

Leads short time?

Yeah, I got accepted in about a week, tell me if you’re accepted!

Less short time. I wrote that. X) Don’t scare me like that. I thought my typo-problem was getting worse.

Wow. So maybe two weeks? I sent my application a little over a week ago but they only acknowledged it on the 29th and they have all of my information except the residency affidavit that’s in the mail. So the second week of February. I definitely will. X)

And wow. Congrats. Great way to ease down the anxiety. I hope UF accepts you. Feb 8 right? My best friend’s waiting too but she’s more hoping for out-of-state. Lastly, what about UCF?

I think you have more than a great chance of getting accepted! I’m looking forward to UF, but they’re no longer my top choice. The wait to Feb. 8 was just too long for me  Plus, USF hold a lot more opportunities and experiences that I wanted in a college. I still like UF as a college though so if you see a girl walking around in a Gators shirt one day and a USF jadcket the other…that might be me xP I’m no longer interested in UCF. I actually was never going to apply, but my mom forced me to. So if everything somehow falls through the floor with USF, I’ll be heading to UCF.

Thanks! I know what you mean. My mom wants me to go to ucf so I can live at home during college. X( I’d much rather go to usf or one of my out-of-state schools. But they’re expensive.
