Admissions

This may sound weird.. but is it possible when an ivy leauge school looks at ur application, the minute they see your GPA and they dont like it will they just throw it away and just stop reading or will they continue examining ur application even ur GPA dosent satisfy what they want ?

:)

Because i was just wondering and i actually want/need to know.
Thanks.

apparently the view it all hollistically, so no its not possible.

however, none of us really know the secrets of the admissions room.

what is your GPA?

Is it possible? Sure -- just as it's possible that the waiter stuck his thumb in your dish as he was bringing it out from the kitchen. We all have to rely to some degree on others' trustworthiness. The college admissions officers should be dedicated staffers who give a thorough examination to each file.

If it were I, could a 1.5GPA cause my eyes to bug out? Well yes. I'd quickly look to see what else would confirm my suspicion that the candidate is completely unrealistic. I wouldn't pore over every syllable of the essays, I can tell you that. I'm sure some files are read and dismissed in under 2 minutes -- that's my guess.

Of course it's possible. Having worked in admissions there are certainly some applications it doesn't take more than a quick read to know are not competitive.

My thought is that only a REALLY low GPA (like 1.5) would get you "automatically rejected". A 3.5, or even 3.0, won't get you "automatically rejected".

On the flip side, a 4.0uw won't get you "automatically accepted."

im still a junior and honestly i still dont know what my GPA is but im asking this because the first term my grades went down a little bit but i managed to improve and i got my grades back high in a dramatic way so do you think its ok if a high university like stanford would see that my grades went down a little but i managed to pull of really well becuase im afraid these low grades will actually decrease my gpa so im afraid after they see my gpa they would throw my application and stop reading it so do u think its possible ?

I doubt they review and vote on every admissions package. Some probably get dropped on the floor and trodden over like a chicken in a Tyson processing plant.

I remember reading about Yale’s application review policy that they read the essays first before they even look at anything. This is an official statement by the admission dean but who knows ?
