admitted freshmen: roommates

I'm a parent of an incoming freshman and I'm wondering if any other parents and students are as anxious as I am about finding out who will be rooming with my daughter. I think I'm actually more worried/excited than she is!

I’m going to be a freshman this coming fall and am unbelievably excited; it seems like your roommate is your first friend at school and I am fully prepared to facebook stalk her/them. I remember seeing that Colgate was going to mail the letters today which seems to mean that they will come tomorrow.

Good luck! Are you hoping for someone geographically close or would you rather experience someone from a different state/country?

My son is in West with 2 other freshman. Is there a separate living area for them along with 3 individual rooms or is there a double and single?

just realized the 3rd floor room assignment is probably a triple not a suite. Hope the beds are all spread out and not on top of each other.

The west triples on the third floor are a single corner room and are a bit small for three, it helps to bunk one of the beds. On the bright side, the triples were always bigger than the doubles, tended to be very social rooms. The guys I knew in triples in West never seemed to have a problem (the girls were a different story though).

I’m in a four-person Stillman suite. Do any of you know if the suites have bathrooms attached? Or will we just use bathrooms in hallways?

Bathrooms in the hallways. I can’t think of a single ensuite dorm freshman year. Cutten/Bryan in soph year have ensuite bathrooms.

We never toured any dorms while visiting Colgate. Just curious, how many rooms are there on the 3rd floor in West and how many boys will be sharing the bathroom? How do the bathroom facilities rate? Who’s responsible for emptying garbage cans from the dorm rooms? Are the dorm floors carpeted? Who’s responsible for vacuuming/cleaning in the dorm rooms?

I would say approximately 30-40 boys lived in the third floor. All will share the same bathroom on that floor. There were 3-4 bathroom stalls and 3 showers, if I recall. Emptying the garbage in your room is your responsibility, as is cleaning/vacuuming (the RA will have a hall vacuum that you can borrow). The dorms are carpeted.

Incoming Freshmen,

Please advise if you have employed the Class of 2015 webpage under the colgate.edu site to request information about dormitories including servicing the rooms, bathroom details and other matters. It seems to me that you might as well go to the source for useful, detailed and accurate information.

Congratulations on your selection of Colgate for the terrific four years that await you!
