Anyone checking out these days at JHU?

I may be going on the 15th. :)

Should be fun.

hahaha well…I’m poor or I totally would be going to those.
I’m pretty sure I’m actually going to the “Discovery Days” next week for the “minority students” hahaha
They reimburse travels hehe :D

15th, mainly to check out dorms, dining halls and classrooms. i was ed so i’m not going to see them market the school to me, i’m very very decided :)

I hear discovery days is super fun actually, I know some kids who did it.

Congrats Alex!

I know people who did discovery days, they do reimburse you for your travels and they do fun things like cruises. and you get to ask personal questions and get real answers to them. and i think if you do it then the admitted student days are part of the program i think

OH!! So all admitted students, not just minorities, can be together at on the 15th?
That’s really cool haha
I will be going to the discovery days so that’ll be cool to see potential classmates
And thanks for the info on the other post, it was definitely helpful
I know what you mean about people dropping out of pre med for the wrong reasons.
I really hope I’m not one of those that won’ t be able to handle it
but I work really hard! so I feel like I can do it! lol And sometimes, only sometimes, I’m reluctant to ask questions or get help because I feel like I should figure things out on my own! But when it comes to college where it determines the rest of my life in a sense, I won’t hesitate to get help
I’m really hoping people there are open to group things
I love getting together with friends, doing homework, studying and stuff
I learn a lot that way…and as soon as I go home, I have my own study habits that are usually successful lol
So if I’m able to keep combining group learning and interaction with my own solo habits, I feel like I can do well!
But I guess I still don’t know haha
Is everything there like insanely hard?? Or is it only hard for those that don’t work at it?

I think I’ll be the first 22nd to post here. 15th is before my vacation (and my brother has something going on that day that makes it impossible for a parent to accompany me down to Baltimore). It should be fun; I’ve never seen the campus before.

I’m going on the 14th/15th too! Flying up by myself, and everyone else from my school is going on the 22nd. Not really looking forward to all that solitude haha.

The only time I visited, it was on my way up to another college, and I was there at like 6 in the morning. During the summer. Needless to say, it was pretty quiet. I didn’t really learn much.

Those are such a blast - I highly encourage you to meet your other admitted students!

@Dillonjay - the best thing you can do at Hopkins is seek help from friends or head to tutoring - there’s ALWAYS people there to help you out! Don’t wait until you fall behind - odds are that if you don’t understand the material there are others who don’t either!

Have a blast!!

Don’t worry ^^ I will be there too! haha maybe we will meet or something! lol
but ^ thanks! yeah I definitely know I wouldn’t let myself make bad grades haha
I’m thinking I’ll be ok
I’m just really afraid of college english honestly lol
I hate english haha

Hey DillonJay, I responded to your question in the cheaper school thread :)

And oh yea, the 15th and 22nd are Thursdays so if you’re at the open houses and see that the campus looks kinda quiet, it’s because thursdays are light days for classes and fewer students have classes on thursdays. i think they did that to prevent students and 1000 or more prospective students and parents from crashing into each other :P

Did I mess up?
My D was invited to a lunch the 15th, so she is doing the sleepover the 14th, but has a 2:41 flight home that day (Prom is the next day…She is on the prom court…Kind of a big deal…to me…she doesnt care, but she has a really nice dress, soo…) Plan was for her to see the campus Wed afternoon, stay over Wed Night, do something in the am, go to the luncheon, and then fly home. Did I mess up by not letting her stay the afternoon?

Need some guidance…Please!

I dont think its a big deal, when i went to open house it had times to visit classes and panels and talk to some professors or deans on panels, i think. she can ask all the questions she needs to at her sleepover and her luncheon, and if she gets the contacts of her host then she can always ask more questions, I think. i dunno what the open house schedule is this time but if she works her resources righ ti think it will be fine

Im doing the overnight thing on the 14th/15th so Ill see you all there.

There’s a schedule here, dadwonders: [Hopkins Admitted Student Site :: Visit Options :: Open Houses](http://apply.jhu.edu/admitted/visit/openhouses.html)
I’m a prospective student too, so I don’t really know what I’m talking about, but from the schedule, it seems that the only things she’ll miss for sure are the Student Activities & Services Exposition and lunch. She’ll have a little less time for everything in the 10 AM to 3 PM group, but I doubt she wants to go to all of those anyway, so it’s not a big deal
Plus for me, the important part is meeting current students and other admitted 2014ers. Which she can do before she has to leave for the airport.

Hahahah DillonJay, I’ll try to guess out who you are!! It’ll work. I’ll look for a Texan who is afraid of English. (PS I share your fear… writing takes so long…)

Son will be attending overnight and 15th day activities. Looking forward to it.

How many students generally attend?

ihs76: The admitted student events are pretty huge. I don’t know numbers wise, but having volunteered and led dorm tours for the past 4 years, there are definitely a lot of people there.

dadwonders: Your daughter should be fine with that flight. It takes half an hour max to get to the airport, so if she leaves campus at 1:00 or 1:15, she’ll still be fine (assuming she’s not checking bags). A couple tips, having volunteered at these events before: Have her plan her day out during the introduction talk. The departmental presentations are normally offered in 3 “blocks” of time, but not every presentation occurs in each block. Dorm tours sometimes form lines (since they can only take one group of 10-15 people in at a time), so if there’s not an info session she wants to see in the first block, she should make her way to the dorms as soon as the tours start (there maybe a gap between the large talk and the start of dorm tours). Lunch is normally in three different groups and students/families are assigned a group when they checkin to spread out the crowd. If she’s assigned a late group, she can ask at checkin to see if they might be able to give her a ticket for an earlier time period. Your daughter will miss the student activities fair, but if she decides to come to Hopkins, they hold an even larger one during the first week of classes for each group to recruit new students.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Tanman, I think she’ll be fine. She is spending the night prior in the dorm, loads of activities, and has a scheduled lunch for 12;30. So she’ll be in a cab by 1:15. She might even have time to sit in a classroom, so that would be nice.

Thanks for everyones replies.

i’ll be visiting on the 15th, haha I’m less than an hour away. hope to meet you all!
