Did any of you guys write anything out of the norm and get accepted to Stanford?

I'm about to send a poem to Stanford as my personal statement. Do you think it is acceptable?

You clearly have misgivings about this choice. Maybe you should show the poem to an adult before you waste the space that is available to you in the personal statement. Most HS poems would not be good substitutes for an essay.

When they say they want you to write an essay, they want an essay. However, whatever you choose to write about in your essay is completely up to you.

The essay is not to test your “special uniqueness” or something like that. You should show yourself in a unique and entertaining way of course, but in an essay. The main purpose of the essay to to simply tell about yourself so that Stanford knows who you are better. Writing a poem shows that you are creative, yes, but does it show that you are a good writer and tell intimate details about yourself?

You can be unique without being out of place

Ok, I’ve got it. Thank you guys very much. :)
