Admitted Students Weekend

Has Northwestern posted any info on an admitted students weekend in April?

Trying to plan another trip to Chicago in April & this info would be helpful so we could make 1 trip instead of two- just in case we hear good news soon.

Thanks.

From what I remember there are three sessions but they aren't a "weekend" as in Saturday and Sunday. I know two overlap like Sunday-Monday, Monday-Tuesday and those are usually a week before the third session.

Also, my department advisor asked me if I could be free to talk to prospective students on April 21 and 28, so I'm thinking that is one of the days. I'd venture to say that it will be April 20-21, April 21-22 and April 27-28.

You could try doing a search on the Northwestern page. The admitted students program is called "Preview NU." Hope that helps and hope you hear good news. Viel Glück!

I''m going to another school's overnight program on the 17th-18th. Do you guys think they would let me schedule an overnight on the 19th? This is, of course, pending that I get in. Also, how would you get to Northwestern from Hyde Park using public transportation?

To CNI:

To get from Northwestern from Hyde Park using public transportation is a pain, and will take anywhere from 90 minutes- 2 hours. Depending on where you are in Hyde Park, you can probably take the Red Line and then transfer to Purple Line. There are also bus routes along Lake Shore Drive, but I personally don't like buses very much.

lol @ "another school" in hyde park ... hmm, wonder what school that might be?

I don't believe you're quite right on this one. It took me an hour and ten tops from Northwestern to U of C on the red/purple lines.

ha ha ha @ lilybbloom

hmmm...very mysterious.

///mzeasy: meh. I guess it all depends on your luck, when you're traveling, etc. CTA does tend to be rather unpredictable.

CNI, you're going to have to find a bus that takes you to a red-line stop, from there, take the red line towards howard, get off at howard and switch to the purple line and take it to foster. Head east about 2-3 blocks, you'll be right in the middle of campus and welcome to the "nice" part of chicago :p

You can take the #55 on 55th (just across from the athletic building) to the Red line at Garfield. Be prepared to wait as much as 30 minutes for the bus (if you're unlucky). Usually its a little better during the day though (I always had bad experiences at night and particularly going to U of C.

The name has changed to "Wildcat Days: Preview NU" (not much of a name change, I know, but I figure it's important to note).

Dates are:
April 21-22
April 22-23
April 28-29

What is Wildcat Days?

Wildcat Days is a series of three overnight programs for high school seniors who have been admitted to Northwestern University through the Regular Decision option. The program gives those students the opportunity to meet current Northwestern students, faculty and staff, and experience some of the academic and extracurricular features of the University.

I received an invitation/postcard to Preview NU. Is that a different event?

Rest assured that Preview NU and Wildcat Days are in fact the same set of overnight visit programs. Preview NU was recently renamed Wildcat Days, and this will be the name of our spring overnight visit program going forward.

Where does the program begin?

Wildcat Days participants should go to Norris University Center (1999 Campus Drive) to check in for the program and receive registration materials. Campus map

What if we arrive late?

Registration will be open until 11:30 am on the lower level of the Norris University Center. If you arrive late, please visit the Wildcat Days Help Desk which is located on the lower level of the Norris University Center. Someone will be happy to check you in as well as point you in the right direction.

What if I can only attend one day of Wildcat Days?

Though we encourage you to stay for both days to see all that Northwestern has to offer, we understand conflicts arise. If you are only able to attend one of the program dates, we highly encourage you to attend the first day. On the opening day we believe you will have the opportunity to get all the most valuable information you need to make your final college decision.

Can I meet with someone about my financial assistance package?

Yes. Financial assistance officers will be available to meet with you and your family regarding any questions about your assistance package. Please make an appointment prior to arriving on campus. Appointments can be scheduled as you register online for Wildcat Days, and are available during office hours (8:30 am - 5:00 pm). If you have questions after registering for your appointment, please call the Office of Undergraduate Financial Assistance (847) 491-7400.

Can I request Kosher meals?

We are more than happy to provide Kosher meals prepared by a rabbi for participants who request them. Please call the Wildcat Days coordinator at 847-467-7789 for more information.

Is there a dress code for Wildcat Days?

All of the events during Wildcat Days are informal and we suggest casual and comfortable attire. The weather in Chicago is often unpredictable, but typically temperatures in late April are on the cooler side. Keep in mind that you will be doing a lot of walking – around campus, the city of Evanston, and if you choose, the City of Chicago.

How will I know if I am confirmed to attend the program?

You can check the Wildcat Days Registration Web site to confirm that we have received 1) your registration information, 2) your payment, and 3) your signed parental/guardian consent form.

Why do I have to submit a parental/guardian consent form?

The form ensures that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying overnight on campus and also protects all parties in the unlikely event of an accident or injury. Parental/guardian form

Should I register even if I don't need on-campus accommodations (i.e., I have a relative or friend attending NU)?

Yes. You must register by the April 14 deadline in order to take part in the program no matter where you stay overnight.

Are meals included in the $20 (per person) fee?

The nonrefundable registration fee covers the welcome lunch on the first day, dinner the night of your stay, and breakfast or lunch in the dining halls the following day. This fee is required for each person attending the program. There will be a parents’ breakfast on the second day of the program (no meal ticket required).

How do I pay the registration fee?

Payment by credit card (American Express, MasterCard or Visa) should be completed online. Your payment will be prompted through the online registration system. If you wish to pay by check, your check must be received by the registration deadline (Monday, April 14). If your check is not received by the appropriate registration deadline, your reservation for the Wildcat Days program will be released. Please make checks payable to Northwestern University Office of Undergraduate Admission and send to:

1801 Hinman Ave.

Why do I need a sleeping bag?

Because you will be staying with students in their residence halls, we cannot guarantee that a bed will be available for every Wildcat Days participant.

the program sucked when i came two years ago. it was just pointless reminders to tell me to do my financial aid, boring programs that more than half of the people fell asleep, and throwing me to overnight hosts who hosted me just for points and made me sleep on the hallway IN JONES (where its 90% theater/music major).

then last year when the prospees came, they had this awkward dance party where only us nu students dancing and having fun.

just find some friendly looking people on facebook and ask them to host you. you will probably end up having a better time here and save the $$.

i think it is worth going, it actually helped me make my decision last year

Lol...I slept in a hallway at Jones during my overnight too...not a wildcat day...anyhow, still weird coincidence
