I think you would be making a huge mistake not attending UCSD just because of the MMW courses. You can take MMW 1 which requires no writing. Then MMW 4T which is intended for transfers. I’m guessing there is a little bit of hand holding in 4T to get transfers up to speed with the freshman admits. Then only one more MMW course. I don’t think it would add any time to your attendance at UCSD. It would only add one course more than Warren.

^ Basically the only thing I have completed is my lower division GE requirements. Going to ERC will start me at square 0, the whole goal of my 5 semesters at JC was to not have to take lower division GE at UC. Also I suck at and despise writing and after reading the rate my professor reviews of the MMW courses I see no way that I can maintain a decent (by my standards) GPA by concurrently taking 3-4 technical courses and a writing intensive course as it would shift my focus from the classes that are actually relevant, and without taking such a schedule my graduation will be delayed by 1-2 costly quarters. Warren’s GE’s allow me the freedom to pick whatever I want, allowing me to choose classes that interest me and are relatively low work load. Also the electrical engineering curriculum requires 3 non math/physics/engineering electives which would seem to overlap Warren’s requirement of 3 upper div GE’s non contiguous to the major.

Honestly I knew the second I saw ERC on my acceptance I wouldn’t be going unless it got changed. I went to admit day to try to improve my attitude and the general theme of the college had no relevance to my personal philosophy. It’s a bad fit and it seems that unless I get some good luck or the provosts of Warren and ERC look kindly on the e-mail I sent them my road as an EE major is over. I’m not too stressed, I’m going to switch to Applied Mathematics and most programs allow you to have a focus in electrical engineering, I’ll also have a better shot at UCLA and Cal as I will have 100% pre-req completion and a 3.9 GPA if I can keep up my trend of 4.0 semesters.

Anyways good luck to you UChopeful and congrats on getting switched out of ERC into a college more suited for you. But in my case I know this just isn’t going to work for me, and besides I REALLY liked UCLA .
