Admitting a Mistake?

I got in trouble freshman year for possession of a look alike drug, should I have it expunged or should I own up to it and talk about it in my college application saying it was a learning experience? Btw it's my reach school

Any question that you’re asked, you should answer truthfully.

In your position, I wouldn’t volunteer any information I wasn’t asked for.

Whether the institution you’re concerned about is a reach is entirely beside the point.

I wouldn’t mention this experience unnecessarily, seeing as it portrays you in a negative light. That being said, if they ask about it, you shouldn’t lie, that would just end badly for you.
Good luck!

But you have to answer all questions truthfully on the Common App, and your guidance counselor has to do the same on the school forms. So… you MUST be truthful if asked. But DO NOT write about it in your essays.

The text on the Common App for this year that you are required to respond to includes:

and:
