Advanced Placement credit

This year I am taking AP US Government, Statistics, Lit. and Comp, and Physics B. Are there any benefits to taking any of those tests? I looked at the AP credit chart and for the college of engineering it seems that none of these tests give credit. I’ve also met the UC Entry Level Writing requirement with the SAT writing score already.

1) A 4/5 on an AP English exam will exempt you from the lower division writing requirement.

2) More AP units means a better pass time, so I’d personally say it’s worth it.

So I’m just looking at this chart and none of the tests I have passed or will take give me credit in engineering so does that mean they are pointless? I received a 3 on Euro, 4 Lang & Comp, 4 Physics
B, & am taking Bio, APES, & Calc AB.

3) A 4/5 on Calc AB can exempt you from Math 21a.

So the rest of my scores are pretty much useless?

What do you mean by “useless”? You get units for them, which gives you a better pass time (see #2 above.) You can also use them towards the 180 units required to graduate, and some courses require that you’re upper division (90 units or more.) If you mean that they don’t exempt you from a course, it’s because they’re not equivalent to the course(s) you need. For example, AP Physics cannot exempt you from any 9-series physics courses because it either doesn’t cover the same material or doesn’t go as in depth.

What does a 5 on Calc BC get me? Also, do you know how community college credits transfer over? I am a high school senior and I have taken Calculus 3 (Vector Calc) and currently taking differential equations.

@ jk3000bot: Simply go to your community college’s admissions office and fill out a transcript request form, and indicate on the form that you would like to have it mailed to the college of your choice (additionally, if the community college you attended has an online transcript request form, you can do that as well). If the community college classes you took are transferrable, UC Davis will count them towards your units taken. It’s an automatic process (as long as you sent in transcripts from your community college, since you have to report every institution you attended).
