So I'm a senior in high school and it's almost time to start paying for AP tests, but I'm not sure if I should take tests for all the APs I'm in.

Should I take the AP Lit exam? I didn't do too well on the AP Eng exam (got a 3) but my teacher this year isn't very good, so I have a feeling I'll get a 3 again. Is it worth it to pay the $90?

And AP Comp Gov and Pol, what would it exempt me from if I plan to be a science major?

I'm also taking AP Calc AB, but I will take the test for that class.

If don’t think you can get a 4 or 5 on the Lit test, don’t take it. With a 3, you’ve satisfied what’s called the university entry level writing requirement. A 4 or 5 will fulfill your Writing I, which basically means it prevents you from having to take one English Composition class. The AP Comp Gov and Pol test isn’t worth taking since you only get “unassigned units” for it and no actual class exemptions. Since you’re a science major, having enough units to graduate shouldn’t be an issue so it’s not worth the money. Study hard for that Calc AB test! With a 5, you can pass out of first level calculus and you’ll be a little ahead.

Thanks! This was really helpful, but how hard is the AP Lit test? And how are the writing composition classes in the UCs? I don’t like English so if it is possible for me to get a 4/5 on the AP lit test, I would rather try than take another English class.

That’s a pretty subjective question so you’ll get a lot of answers. Keep senioritis in mind, it can be a bad problem lol but the classes aren’t that bad. I don’t feel like they are exceedingly difficult and as long as you give some effort, it shouldn’t be hard to earn a good grade.
