Advantages of applying EA to Stanford?

^I personally disagree with both statement. I don’t think you have to be a “slam dunk” applicant to get in (I know I sure as hell wasn’t). Moreover, I don’t think it’s worth any marginal boosts – if you got in RD, you probably could have gotten in EA as well and vice versa.

And yes, while only ED indicators first choice status, applying early to ONLY Stanford can be a strong statement of intent, I suppose. Again, I disagree with the statement that it shows the adcoms it’s your first choice (especially given the fact that Harvard and Princeton are only RD now), but that’s just what she said.

TheAscendancy, the REA application for Stanford actually includes a statement, to which the applicant attests via his signature, that Stanford is his first choice. (It’s been a while since last fall, so you may have forgotten that part on the sig page.) Of course, since REA isn’t binding the statement isn’t enforceable, but it is still designed to indicate a heightened level of interest by the applicant who is willing to limit his early apps to a single college.

I agree with xargon that there is an advantage to applying early. I do feel you are marginally more likely to get in, as TheAscendancy said, although how significant that is is up for debate.

That being said, I know of several students outright rejected EA at Stanford who were accepted at Harvard, Oxford, AWS, etc., etc.
