I'm trying to decide on whether or not I should apply to Stanford EA this fall. Given that I am doing something there during the summer (and hopefully can get a recommendation), I'm thinking that I should apply early. But will this increase my chances of getting in?

From previous stats, acceptance rate for EA and RD are about the same, but I'm assuming that most ppl who apply early are super good. So would it actually be harder to get in early?

this past year the acceptance rate for EA was about twice the RD rate.

There are many factors to consider. There are many other threads about the same topic.

To summarize some of them, you should apply early if:
You feel you can prepare the best application possible by the REA deadline. If you can improve it for the RD deadline, then wait.
You are confident about your academic record up to the end of junior year. If your grades are on an upward trend and you want to show them that your 1st quarter senior year grades are improved, then wait.
Stanford is your first choice school.
You do not want to apply EA or ED to another school.

Whether EA is easier or more difficult than RD is still being debated constantly.
