s accepted from nor cal
good in math and science but more of an art, creative writing, history maybe a tad of business and advertising type type
likes to be close to the ocean but more of a city not surburban type, not big on hot weather. any upsides to irvine for that type--why is it a dream school for some? why so high in the ratings
i tried to tell you as soon as i knew that postings were up, will you help meby replying

Irvine is really close to the beach, but that's the only part i can really respond to.

I don't think much business is available at Irvine, but the other programs are generally good. UCR has full blown creative writing, and it's a great program, but like UCI, is not a city, and is a suburb. UCI is more city-like, in the West coast sense, but not in the San Francisco or East cost sense. You can search the internet for weather information.

UCI is very strong in the sciences, and very strong in creative writing as well. Not so sure about history. They don't actually have a business major, but many students who want to go that route will major in economics and/or do a minor in management or accounting.

UCI is very close to the beach, and the weather is great. Never cold, and never too hot.

Why is it high in the ratings? It's a leading research university, part of the UC system, etc.

How much creative writing resources can an undergraduate get at UCI? Is it like many English departments, where limited classes are available? At Berkeley, the creative writing is supposed to be good, but to access it, I think that you have to have some writing, and apply for those particular classes. UCR has a full program dedicated to creative writing. Sure, UCI has one-of-if-not-the-best graduate writing program, but how does it trickle down to the undergraduate level?

Why don't you call up the humanities office and ask them? You'll get much more help from them then you would from this message board. Or you can also go to www.anteaterforum.com and ask the current students on that board.
