Advertising/Public Relations-Majors and Minors to complement it?

Currently I am a freshman in college but I came in with a good amount of credits so that next semester I will start taking major-specific classes instead of General Education classes. I am aiming towards an Advertising/Public Relations major. I am most likely going to do multiple minors, or double major. I'm not sure what to do though. For minors, possibly Hospitality Management, Psychology, Film-Cinema Studies(I'd like to be involved in the Entertainment industry, particularly in film), Event Management, or Health Services Administration (I would choose a few from these categories). Double Majoring is also an option, but I'm not sure what would be my other major since I already had such trouble deciding on my first major. Maybe something in business. I'm currently taking a macroeconomics class, and so far I've found it somewhat interesting. If I continue to find it interesting maybe I'll pursue something on it.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to study? Like what minors and majors would go well with an Ad/PR major?

I feel like everywhere I go to look, people talk about Advertising/Public Relations major in a negative way. Like, the job outlook is bleak, the salary is low, it's a useless major, etc.

Any Ad/PR majors or Communications majors can help me out and tell me about their experiences? Am I wasting my time?

Does it matter where I get my degree in Ad/PR (and whatever I plan on double majoring/minoring in?) I also plan on going to graduate school.

Actually, for communications jobs, advertising and PR are, I think, the highest-paid of the bunch on average. Maybe not when you’re working your first job, but lots of potential there. And companies will always be advertising something.

At UR, the advertising major was in the business school so the first few required courses were business-heavy. If your major is more on the communications side of things, a business major/minor would probably be a good complement. If you want to get into the film industry, at least taking film studies classes would be a good idea so that you can get a good understanding of the industry, historically and artistically. Depending on your school, you wouldn’t have to be a major or minor to take classes in film.

Thanks so much for your input! I kept getting negative comments when I posted about this topic so this is a relief. I was actually going towards that path, doing business either major or minor and planning on minoring in film studies.

Just curious, are you a graduate of this major? If so, how has your experiences in the field been like? Like internships and such?

Do you reccommend going to grad school?
