I'm planning on majoring in communications, minoring in International Business and using my elective credits to earn a Nonprofit leadership certificate.

I don't have a specific career in mind but could see myself doing office work of some type, HR, non profit work, working in a library (as a clerk...you don't need a master's for that), customer service, etc.

Does this sound like a good plan for employment after college?

Don’t get me wrong - I am not a great specialist here, but I don’t think that you need such a strict plan for after graduation. i mean that if you are enrolling this year you have 4 years to taste the classes, to meet new pple. New opportunities will come across so don’t expect to complete your plan. Though in today’s crisis of post-grad-find-me-a-job, it’s good you have a plan. Just don’t have to stick to it if at some point it actually doesn’t suit you anymore.

Thanks for the reply :-)

Sorry I didn’t include my current status as a student.
I am currently finishing my Associate in Arts (AA) degree through a local community college. I’m transferring to a university this upcoming fall (fall 2011) where I will start as a Junior (AA clearing lower level general education credits)…so I only have 2 years of school left…hence why I feel the need to have somewhat of a plan.
Please not that it won’t take me any longer to finish the bachelors even with the certificate since I’m using my elective credits (I need 20 elective credits…certificate is only 18) to fulfill the certificate, so I’ll still finish in roughly 2 years.

With this in mind…does the major and minor together with the certificate sound like a good plan for employment?

Thanks! :-)
