Currently, I have about 200 hours from one summer. I'm not doing it just so I can tally up hours, I am really passionate about what I am doing. I'm curious, though, how much of an edge I'll have. I just got my license and plan to volunteer more throughout the upcoming weeks. I'm currently a high school sophomore, so when all said and done, I could have somewhere between 400-700 hours, depending if I can keep up with this. How big of an advantage will I have when applying to a good college? (not quite Ivy League, but along the lines of Duke, Johns Hopkins, or University of Chicago)

Volunteering is important. Will it somehow give you an edge if you have a 700 hours? perhaps. Depends on what you are doing/leaderships. BTW, how do you have your license as a soph?

I can get it a couple months after I turn 16

Where I’m from you can get your learner’s permit as early as 14 and a half. After at least a year you can go ahead and get your license so a lot of sophmores already have theirs now. Congrats lilly :D
