Advice for a Spring 2022 Transfer Student? Academic Probation to President's List

Hello-- Any and all insight or help would be greatly appreciated!

I recently completed my Sophomore year at Rollins College in Florida. I have a rather unique academic profile; I had a 2.6 GPA my first semester as a freshmen (did NOT fail any courses) and was placed on Academic Probation. My second semester I posted a 4.0 GPA which put me on the President’s List and throughout Sophomore year I maintained a 3.1+ GPA. My overall college GPA is a 3.06, however, this figure is greatly held down due to my poor first semester.

I felt that COVID significantly dampened my experience at Rollins and totally halted my acclimation to campus; I also did not love the people.

I am looking to transfer to a school in the Boston area for the Spring of 2022, I’ve been researching Boston University, Babson, Emerson, Bentley, & Northeastern…

I never declared a major at Rollins, however, I completed 16 different courses in various areas of study. I am certain I can get strong letters of recommendation and that I can put together a very impressive essay for my transfer applications.

What are people’s thoughts on my status? Does a horrendous first term freshmen GPA totally screw me? Or can I use my GPA improvement at Rollins to demonstrate hard work and a strong turn around?

I truly appreciate any and all feedback. I am just beginning the transfer process and am planning to apply to schools for the Spring Semester of 2022, so applications will primarily be due this October/November.

You definitely have a shot at Bentley and maybe Babson. BU and Northeastern will be much more difficult. I don’t know anything about Emerson.

I disagree with you. I believe I have a good shot at BU and Babson. I did not include my ec’s, art portfolio, or work experience in my question.

You asked and I gave my opinion. You don’t have to agree with me. But I stand by my answer given the information you provided.

Take it ease.

At best, you aren’t serious about asking for advice, and a ■■■■■ at worst. Good luck with whatever college takes you on.

went 7/8 on applications. Ended up getting a large scholarship to an elite college. You get a lot more w/ honey than vinegar buddy.
