@emmycat She doesn’t sound directionless as all. It just sounds like her interests don’t conform to a neat tidy package and therefore might appear a bit risky as the foundation for a career. I think this is a great time to be focused on wellness, both physical and psychological. Smart, hardworking people will always find a place for themselves.
You should also be very proud of her as it can be hard to maintain motivation when one hasn’t narrowed down a course of study. She will not have to dig out from a record of poor grades. Those strong grades from a high quality school are a great foundation for whatever lies ahead.
I don’t have much to add about academic programs and majors that hasn’t already been said. I would add that she should try to avoid the “should have done this or that by now” impulse. She does not need to compare herself to her friends and their internships. She’ll find her way and if it takes an extra year or two, so what? She sounds great!
