Bring lots of warm clothes, including a heavy winter jacket, a laptop computer, good (and waterproof) hiking or walking shoes, an open mind, a sense of adventure, and a desire to study and learn. ( to quickly name a few things). Good luck to you!

Honestly, you should just focus on maintaining your grades for the rest of senior year and other than that, have fun. Doing something completely ridiculous and fun with your friends. Yes, you all might stay close after you go off to college, but you may not, so use the time you have left well. Try to do something meaningful over the summer, whether it be working, volunteering or traveling, but also take a lot of time to relax. Come into Cornell with an open mind and willingness to work harder than you ever have before. Enjoy your second semester of senior year, it really goes by quickly!!

Tissues. LOTS and LOTS of tissues.

You really need to do shopping before you get there.

There’s pretty much no good shops/haircut places in Ithaca.

Bring an Umbrella, that’s a little thing people forget to bring but is really useful in Ithaca. Them September/October rains are crazy for real though.

There is a barber shop on Dryden right as you enter Collegetown

wool socks

In terms of clothing / food and things along those lines … maybe things for my dorm?

What types of clothing should i buy? Specific brands / types and all that good stuff, I usually dont do big winter shopping i just wear sweater/hoodie / layers with my varsity jacket in school but obv at cornell it will be different. My mom suggested to go shopping now while winter clothes are in season? What do you guys suggest?

Thanks for the feedback!

L.L. Bean: Flannel lined jeans & Fleece lined flannel shirts

<a href=“Men's Fleece-Lined Flannel Shirt, Traditional Fit | Casual Button-Down Shirts at L.L.Bean”>Men's Fleece-Lined Flannel Shirt, Traditional Fit | Casual Button-Down Shirts at L.L.Bean;

Note: The fleece lined flannel shirts run quite large & can be used as an outer layer in Fall or Spring as well as a shirt…

Thanks so much! Do you suggest I buy these items now, or is there any better period of time to purchase these?

How about coats/ boots / what do you suggest i buy? — how cold is the dorms?

I live in a fairly cold area, new NY and its pretty cold right now… but i sleep in shorts and with a fan - would the dorms still feel the same as home temperature?

The dorms are very warm. You can wait to buy winter clothes.
cashmere socks. :)

Barber shop doesn’t work for fancier haircuts if you’re into that kind of stuff.

Like all the korean internationals I talk to don’t even get their hair cut in Ithaca because there’s no way it’ll get cut right.

EDIT: It’s actually almost a good time to buy winter clothes since winter clearance sales are going to start soon.

Get something really thick like a peacoat.

I would suggest some sort of three-in-one winter jacket with a zip-out fleece lining. You want a waterproof exterior and I like a hood as it is one less thing to lose. North Face, Columbia, EMS, REI, LL Bean, Lands End, etc. Buy it a bit large so that you can wear it over a turtleneck & sweater or fleece.

And, yes, now is a good time to shop. Perhaps buy a few pairs of inexpensive fleece gloves b/c those are easy to lose.

Thanks so much guys!

Any other tips ?

What to have in dorm room? Im a guy

watch out for lined pants and too many layers…the buildings are WARM, the outside is COLD. You don’t want to be be sweating in class or have too many clothes to keep up with.
