Hi. I am struggling in AP English Language right now, and I really need figure out a way to do better in class. Can anyone give me some advice, like how to write essays, how to analyze prose, etc.? Thank you very much.

Just wondering on the topic of AP English, do you need the class to take both tests? I am probably going to take AP Lit, but I also want to take the Lang Test so would that be okay. Also aren't the stuff from the tests nonstudyable. Aren't they like various like on the SAT test.

The Language test is more just an assessment of writing ability and reading comprehension of short passages while the Literature test focuses more on novels and literary devices. I took Language last year, the only advice I can give is think outside of the box when writing essays. Don't just conform to formulaic methods the teacher has prescribed for writing (such as the all-too-familiar Concrete Detail, Commentary deal). Write what comes to you, and the rest will work out.

What really worked for me was grading other's responses with a rubric on hand. Right away you find out what works and what doesn't. Ofcourse, you have to be writing and practicing all the time.

Really, the test cant be studied for like a math or science test. Learning literary terms and reading helps develop your own style.
