AP english lit and language?

which one do you usually take your jr or sr year?
is it more beneficial if you can take both the same year? i am thinking of doing that next year, but will that be too hard, even if i only take one of the tests?

Generally, you take Language during your Junior year, and then Literature during your Senior Year. The Language test tests you understanding of the English language (duh!), and Literature, your reading comprehension/writing abilities (basically the multiple choice on the test is the same as the critical reading on the SAT)

The Lang test is easier to get a 5 on, but the Lit test is more respectful...

Look at your fav college's AP policy, and decide which test will give you credit...if you're good enough at English you could probably take both test without even taking the class...

Don't know about your school, but at my school, Lang was a JOKE!!! But they didn't allow students to take both at the same time for some reason...

If you have to pick one, go with Lit, it MUCH harder, but MUCH MORE fun...

oh okay thanks so much!! i always thought language was harder for some reason..maybe b/c i'm not that good at grammar stuff..:)

It's been several years since I took them, but I don't recall them being all that much different from each other. I do remember taking Language in junior year and Literature in senior year though. I don't care for english-y stuff too much, but I 5'd both exams with the mindset of "write down as much crap as possible". Bottom line: Don't get intimidated and just make up s**t!

I do recall for the exams you're expected to be extremely familiar with selected pieces of literature so that you can write about them on the essay portion, but that's about it. I don't think there's any way to effectively study for the exams either unless you're taking a class, so that's a relief in a way.
