I am applying with the common app for several schools. I was just wondering if there is any specific advice (because my teachers are useless lol :P jk) for writing admissions essays. I have my heart set on Stanford, and I would value any advise on how to write the best application essay ever. Thanks. Maybe some Stanford Alums/students could post? cough cough POST! :P

Say something only you could say. Easy, right?

And have it edited. By someone who knows what they are talking about.

…Could you elaborate? lol Sorry xD Its just too unspecified…

read this:
[Essays, Admission Information, Undergraduate Admission, U.Va.](http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/writingtheessay.html)

Bump…please?

I’m really not sure what you are looking for. A college essay doesn’t mean anything different at Stanford than it does anywhere else. The link posted was a great resource to start with. There are plenty of similar articles all over the internet as well.

I was looking for more resources. That was an excellent place to START with, but I do need more advice…There isnt exactly a Silverturtle or Xiggy Method for writing College Admissions essays that I could find…[Ive checked…desperately lol]

Have you tried writing an essay? and then when that doesn’t work, think for awhile then try to write another essay. Repeat until you find something that represents you. It’s not easy, but every has to do it.

Basically, the goal of a college admissions essay is that by the end, it could only have been written by you and nobody else. That’s when you know it speaks to who you are, and that’s what you want.

There are lots of books out there about writing the college essay with tons of examples. I like Harry Bauld’s, but there are others. Go buy a used one online or visit your local library.

Thanks guys, you’ve all provided insightful info and you’ve helped greatly! :D

helped me a TON before I got started! But you’ll have to speed-read considering the application deadlines are in a few months for RD.

Try not to read too much and obsess too much; it’ll make you end up writing something that you think others want to hear. Just really focus on telling a story that expresses who you are, and after you have that down focus on editing it. Have people read it who know good writing and can edit you for grammar and clarity, and have people read it who know you well and can let you know how well you’re expressing who you are. Good luck! :)
