Advice for clueless high school junior

I have no clue what I really want to do with my life. I love math and physics these are by far my best and favorite subjects. I cant stand biology and chemistry (besides the math parts). I would say I am very naturally smart. I am a heavy procrastinator but I know i need to change my study habits as I have breezed through school thus far. My question is does anyone have some advice as to what majors to explore? After minimal research Civil and Mechanical engineering look very interesting. Mathematics and Physics majors seem obvious but what career paths would these majors lead to? Some business majors such as actuary or statistician degrees look interesting as well. My father is an accountant and does not particularly like what he does, he is a private CPA. I know ive asked alot of broad questions but if anyone has any type of advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Definitely look into economics and/or business (finance etc.). You might find the theoretical aspects of either to be very engaging and there can be PLENTY of math in both.

More broadly, why are you thinking of engineering or business? Why not apply to a liberal arts college and/or college of arts and sciences? It’s perfectly understandable that you don’t know what to major in at this time (you are a junior in HS - plenty of time yet). Don’t worry about the job market yet. You are doing the correct thing by thinking though that it is you LIKE doing - continue along those lines and major in something interesting and rigorous. You will have then maximized your chances at finding a job. Trust me.

PS - if you really want to do something applied, there’s always grad school.

Economics, statistics, most kind of engineering. Just remember that the more you like something, the less of a hassle it will be studying for hours and the more you will look forward to your career
