???
Gain experience volunteering or crewing on film/tv productions. Networking. Make your own films. Networking. Attend a quality film school. And… networking lol.
Agree that volunteering might be one method of making career / job connections, but I do wonder if there are union barriers to volunteering for certain positions.
Pay $250,000+ to volunteer
My daughter as a junior had a connection in LA to be the Art Director on a “B” film. Same people that do Sharknado…
She did get paid scale for 3 weeks. 16 hour days at least etc. Great experience. Went to Warner Bros to pull things for the sets etc.
But she met a girl 18 years old or so
Maybe 21 with minimal experience. She did volunteer. Not sure how but worked her tail off daily and loved it. That was 5 years ago. I forgot her job title but she has worked movies ever since. Like constantly. The same group worked another movie. Then she met some others and so on. It’s seems to be a much smaller community and it appears once your in and people like your work ethic, they just keep asking you to work the next movie etc. The behind the scenes people like working in the same group, I guess when they can.
So that is one way and then work your way up
Are you in high school or college? Start by finding student productions to get involved in, yes it will be “volunteer” AKA unpaid in the industry, get experience as a PA (Production Assistant), keep building experience, using those connections to work your way up, repeat, repeat, repeat.
Yes a PA. That is exactly what my daughter’s friend did.
“Jobs in film” is extremely vague. There are hundreds of different positions. What is it exactly that you’re interested in? Are you located in LA? Do you have any prior experience? Are you a USC student? Why are you posting this on the USC board?
If you want to work on set, sure, PAing is how you’re gonna start, but if you plan to work at an agency, carrying sandbags around isn’t gonna get you far.
Was a cinema and Media Studies Major. Looking for office assistant jobs and pa gigs mostly.
