Hey guys!!! I just comitted to Georgetown (class of 2022) for a major in human science in the NHS (I’m premed).
I would appreciate it if any of you could offer some advice to me about the transition to Georgetown, whether it be registering for classes, good food options, social life, academics, which professort to take, study tips, making friends, etc. Any advice is good advice! It could be about anything!
Thanks so much! Hoya Saxa!
Congratulations! Some advice: Don’t use the university MyAccess for class registration–it’s far too clunky. Use classy: https://classy.thecorp.org/browse. It’s a Corp-built tool that’s far easier to use. I’m SFS so can’t really give you any tips on profs or anything, but the NHS is known for its tight-knit community, so you shouldn’t have much difficulty making friends with the people in your class. Sign up for a pre-orientation program if you can–they’re a great way to get involved early and to start getting yourself familiar with Georgetown.
Congrats on your decision!
Thank you! The ‘classy’ tool seems really interesting. I’ll be sure to check it out when I’m registering. Do freshman usually get their first choice when registering?
And do you have any recommendations on any interesting classes/ goob professors to take for the philosophy, theology, and the other gen-eds?
Thanks!
It depends on what classes you’re registering for. If you want to take classes normally taken by sophomores/juniors, you likely won’t get your first choice. If you’re registering for freshman classes, you have a pretty good chance, depending on how highly you rank it during pre-reg.
Since you’re in the NHS, I think I may have different definitions of interesting for the gen-eds than you lol. Most of the ones I wanted to take revolved around foreign policy or international affairs with a gen-ed tag. There’s a philosophy class on AI and ethics that I want to take which you may find interesting. Problem of God with the Hindu priest or the imam would also be interesting. What other classes are you looking to fulfill?
For my major I have to do Human Bio and Chem, leaving 2 spaces for gen-eds. I’m thinking of doing my writing requirement and a philosophy or theology. I want to get my gen-eds out of the way freshman and sophmore year to leave space for some electives and potentially a minor later down the road.
