Advice for restaurants and things to do/see in Lewiston

My son was admitted to (and accepted) his spot at Bates this spring, but is now taking a gap year, so he’ll be matriculating there in 2022. He’s very excited. But . . . he never got a chance to visit the campus last year, and we are finally headed up to Lewiston in August! We are staying in Portland for three nights, but plan to spend at least a day in/near Lewiston, and would love suggestions. Where should we eat for breakfast/lunch? What should we do in and around Lewiston? (We are signed up for a campus tour of Bates already, so that’s covered). Is there a place to try Somali food in Lewiston - my son was really interested in that if is possible.

Plus, for extra credit, what are some great activities to do in the area in general (outside of Lewiston)? We will have my daughter with us, who’s a rising junior, so we will likely pop by to see Bowdoin, and we’ve been to Maine in the past so have been to Freeport, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, Wells. Would love some suggestions for outdoor activities and also things to do/see in Portland.

Your best bet is to read through this thread, which should definitely answer your question, especially in the earlier part of the thread. There’s even a mention there of where to get goat stew. If you still have questions, feel free to message me. Congratulations to your son!

I am going to send you a PM.

I love taking the ferry to Peak’s Island, in Casco Bay off of Portland. I recommend getting a golf cart tour of the island to see a lot! There is an inn close to the dock that has good food, too. This is where I take guests in the summer.
