Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on schools that have a good music program and Pre-med program preferably in Texas! Thanks!

UNT, UT, and Rice all have tremendous music schools. To be completely honest, I wouldn’t suggest doing pre-med and music performance unless you seriously dedicated to both of them. You are asking for trouble (or at least very little free time) when you sign up to combine two very rigorous courses of study.

Well see I really don’t know what to do exactly I was thinking originally of doing music performance as my major but taking basic Pre-med prerequisites that can certify me to med-school but is it really all that much?

Post this same question in the Music Major Forum and the Pre-Med Forum available on the main CC Forum page. I think ybrown is probably correct. I have many friends who are music grads and they had little time for much else. I also think there are fewer electives for music to fill in with your prereqs.

The problem with majoring in music is that you will take lots of 1 credit hour classes and spend far more time with them than you do some of the 3 credit hour classes. Private lessons are a great example - 1 credit hour, but you will be expected to put at least 5-10 hours a week into preparation for it. Bands and Orchestras often meet as often as a 3 hour class but only get 1 credit. You get the idea. Fitting something else with a music major is very very difficult to do in 4 years (Indeed I know many music majors who took 5 or more years to graduate.)
