Please help!! i need advice on choosing a college!

I have been procrastinating on choosing a college that is right for me and so far i have been accepted into 5 and have applied to about 15. Firstly I am from Texas and am strongly considering UTPA, UT, Baylor, Rice and UTSA. However i plan to major in biology (pre-med) and i was also looking for a place with oppertunities to still play my oboe too. PLEASE HELP i need advice!!!!

Have you thoroughly researched the 15 schools to which you have already applied?

It seems rather pointless to suggest more colleges, since your list is already long and many deadlines have passed. Presumably the colleges you have already applied to fit at least most of what you are looking for, so you will have a decent (and affordable) set of options come April.

Easier thing to do here is to help you choose from the 15 to which you’ve applied. Does that work for you? If we’re to help you choose from outside the 15, can you help us to narrow it down from the thousands of colleges in the US?

Also, pls tell us at what level you need to play your oboe. Do you need to play for your friends? in a school orchestra? in the marching band? in a country band? in a music performance major?

What are your stats (GPA/SAT or ACT, college prep/honors/AP/IB curriculum…?)
What are the 15 you’ve already applied to?
Is financial aid (or merit aid) a consideration?

You could apply to Southwestern and Trinity (TX), they may be looking for oboe players and they’re supportive for premeds. But you may already have applied or your stats may not be competitive or you may want us to suggest schools outside of Texas…
So I second what jkeil said above.

Well in all Honesty i really am narrowing my choices down to UT, UTSA, UTPA, Baylor, and UNT and as for oboe i really dont think I can handle music performance and pre-med, HOWEVER i would really love to play in a concert band or orchestra and have lessons just as a hobby but also be focused on getting those pre-med prereqs. Well my Act score was a 24 :frowning: but out of all 4 i have so far taken in my AP exams i got 2 4s, one 5, and one 3, and financial aid and scholarships are IMPORTANT!! thank you for your help!!

Now that OP has it narrowed down to 5 schools, I think as far as the oboe opportunities go, OP would best be served by asking over at these schools’ CC folders.

As for FA, there are two kinds. OP can determine the GRANT aid, student work, and student loans OP is likely to get by running the net price calculators for each school. You’ll need your parents’ 2012 federal tax form unless they have 2013 done already. This will provide you with an Estimated Family Contribution your parents will have to pay for you to attend each school.

In order to help you with MERIT aid, OP, we’ll need to know your GPA and ECs. In the case of Baylor, we’ll need to know if you’re a Baptist. It is not likely you would qualify for much in merit aid given your 24 on the ACT, so let’s focus on the grant aid for now.
