My daughter wants to apply ED2 but is unsure of this essay. I assume the school wants her write about the good qualities the students, called spiders, have and how she’ll contribute to that? And how they’re like real spiders? Is that right? So confused…all ideas are appreciated!
@allyphie Thank you, I did see that but I’m still confused, everyone’s essay will end up sounding the same I think, just saying wonderful things about the students and where a prospective student might fit in.
Do people usually try to tie it in with real spiders? I tried to google successful spider essays that have gotten kids admitted but had trouble finding them just wanting brainstorming ideas!
They are looking for creativity and passion. From this essay they may be able to tell a student’s level of interest. If the applicant tries to use an essay from another application and just sandwiches it between an opening and a closing about spiders, you can see how this tells admissions that U Richmond is just one of a long list of schools the applicant is applying to - and applicant could not be bothered to write a really unique, standout essay. NOT what they want. They want to know that the applicant spent time, energy and thought spinning a unique essay that is not re-usable for every other school.
In the case of applying ED, however, I don’t think it would matter at all if your D chose the other essay prompt. ED implies her level of interest already.
@lotstodo. thank you, I didn’t mean to imply she’d copy another essay, just looking for ideas or anything that may start her thinking in a different direction. She’s sort of frozen in it but it’s her top choice school for sure! Interesting point about possibly choosing another essay as she’s doing ED. I guess she will write a few & submit the one that is the best, thank you!
