Hi everyone!
I will be retaking the SAT on Oct. 1st. My first score was a 1250/1600 (680 CR/W, 570 math). I would ideally like to get a much higher math score. I know that Khan Academy has practice on there (I linked my previous SAT score to the website to get specialized help). What are some strategies or tips so that I can get a better math score? I’m really good at math but tend to be bad at it on these type tests (same thing happened with ACT).
Hi!
Have you done the practice tests from the official College Board SAT prep book? I agree with the ACT Black Book’s method–if you’re not familiar with it, he said that only practice questions from the actual testmaker are good for practice purposes, since only they truly mimic the question-writing techniques/concept-testing methods of the real test (be it ACT or SAT). He says that analyzing each practice question is the most helpful thing to do, because the College Board and ACT, Inc. test a specific set of concepts in a consistent (though strange–that’s probably why you didn’t score as high on the SAT math but are good at school math) manner (otherwise the tests wouldn’t be standardized). If you can get those down, then you’ll be good on test day.
Am I making sense?
Yes, thank you!!
Read the questions very carefully and make sure you understand what they are asking you to solve. The new SAT is very “wordy” in the math questions.
