advice for transfer schools?

I'm currently a sophomore at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and am looking to transfer for the start of the 2012 fall semester but need some advice with what schools to look at.

I originally enrolled at Emory because I was interested in genetic research and wanted to take advantage of their strong science programs. However, after my first year I realized that area of study was not for me. I'm now interesting in Anthropology (cultural) and Theater Arts. I was also having doubts about the school itself but decided to stick it out another semester to see if it was just first year blues. It isn't. The student community at Emory is sub-par; it is full of cliques, hardly anyone is willing to help one another out, and there is zero school spirit. I've also experienced a disconnect from the professors; only the theater department and the tiniest fraction of other department profs have shown a genuine interest in the success of their students. I'm also a Gates Millennium Scholar and Emory's financial aid department is surprisingly terrible with handling our scholarship needs considering they have one of the top Scholar populations on the East half of the U.S.

I'm looking for a college that is small/medium (10,000 students or less), liberal arts with strong anthropology and theater departments, of high academic standards (the same tier as Emory), study abroad opportunities, and a tight-knit/strong student and faculty community.
Also, if there are any GMS scholars that have had good experiences with their university, let me know!

My high school G.P.A was above 4.0 (unweighted, can't remember the exact number) and an ACT score of 30.
At Emory, my G.P.A has dropped and I have less community service and student activities as I did in high school. I know that's going to limit my chances for some of the schools I wanted to reapply/apply to for transfer, but I'm not going to let that stop me from trying!

If anyone has advice on schools to look at, I would really appreciate hearing from you.
I'm already looking at reapplying to Macalester College (MN) and Brown University (RI). I was accepted to both of those schools my first go around of college searching, so hopefully that will help some.

Thanks so much.

Good luck on your hunt for the school that suits you the best. Actually, I am applying to Emory University for Fall 2012 as a transfer applicant and I need some advice for my “Why Emory” essay. Can you please tell me what kind of essay did you write, or share your essay with me, if possible? I am almost done with my application, but stuck with my essay. What type of essay do you think would increase my chances of getting into Emory?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon

HADA08

Well what’s your college GPA?

Might also want to try Wesleyan and Oberlin if you’re looking at Macalester.
