I plan to transfer in the future. What do universities typically look for?

I'm planning to take my core classes at a university where financial aid will cover everything, but I'm concerned if a school like Emory University would reject me based on the college I will transfer from. Do people at admissions consider these type of things?

What must I do to get admitted? What do high-ranked schools like Emory look for in transfer students? Should I join a superfluous amount of clubs/organizations?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

You must preform well in that first college and write excellent essays. At any highly selective school you will be competing against the best of the best, you have to convince them that they should take you. And you should join organizations that make you happy. Do not join the Underwater Basket Weaving Club because you think Emory wants to see that. Join MUN, Debate Club, Peer Health Advocates, or even a belly dancing club. Just make sure that you actually enjoy it. Good luck.
