Hey! I'm new on the board, and I'm a senior trying to make my final decisions. At this point, I think it's between Vassar and Brown, and I'm pretty sure Vassar is winning.

I will be going to campus in the next couple days, and I wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations for things I should check out while I'm there, either on campus or in Poughkeepsie. I took a tour and did an info session over the summer, so I already know a bit about the campus, but any advice would be great!

I am particularly interested in dance, and so I will be taking a class, and I have an appointment with one of the dance teachers, but if there's anyone that has any experience with the Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre, that would be great too!

So how was your second trip to Vassar?! The Hudson Valley is a nice region, but Brown's proximity to the ocean would be tempting to me! Vassar isn't in the best section of Pok/c and the town-gown relations are practically nonexistent. Great academics, nice campus, but way too liberal for my taste!

In the end, I've chosen to go to Brown, actually. My visit was quite good, in many ways, but I just didn't quite get that gut feeling that I was expecting, and I did get that at Brown. I felt very cramped and isolated on the campus. It was a very tough decision though, and there were some things about Vassar that I have to give up for Brown, like the amazing dance program :(

chex - you got that town-gown thing straight out of princeton review. poughkeepsie relations with vassar are not nearly as bad as they say. dont say things you dont know, it only aids the spread of false perceptions.

Holden is correct - Vassar's relations with Poughkeepsie are actually quite good (surprisingly); most Po-folk are proud of the college, rather than resentful. The only real disagreements of late have arisen due to some traffic issues in front of Main Gate.
