I am seriously considering Northwestern and will be pre-med, possibly majoring in Math. What is the pre-med advising like at NU? What are the pre-med required courses like? Are the students cutthroat & intensely competitive like at JHU or Cornell or is there an air of cooperation among them? What about the professors? Do they hold regular office hours, do they care about teaching and about the students or do they just see the pre-med courses as the bane of their existence and grade to "weed out" the masses of pre-med students? Does NU help you get experience, shadowing physicians, help you hook up with someone to do a research project or are you on your own? What is the percentage of students who start out pre-med but never make it? Of those who do apply (M.D. degree, not D.O) what percentage get admitted?
I know it's a lot of questions but I would love to hear from someone out there, a current pre-med or an alumnus.
